Camerata - Bliss
Qpac Concert Hall
Follow your bliss to a joyous performance from Queensland's Chamber Orchestra, Camerata, and Julian Bliss with the concert, Bliss, on August 10 at QPAC Concert Hall.
Acclaimed U.K. clarinet soloist Julian Bliss will join Camerata for a very special night of string music. Since starting to play the clarinet at the age of four, Bliss has gone on to major success, playing at most of the world's leading festivals and venues.
The critics can't find enough superlatives to describe Bliss's performances, with The Times saying, "It isn't just his technique, though that is astonishing enough. It's the wit, poise and vivacity in his playing..." He's recently played with top-class orchestras such as BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestra of Paris.
Bliss's talents will be excellently matched by our own Camerata, founded in 1987 by acclaimed string educator, Elizabeth Morgan AM. They've built a reputation for innovation and adventurous programming as well as amazing artistic achievement.
Beethoven's Serioso Quartet will open the concert, followed by Paquito D'Rivera's tango-inspired Invitación al Danzón for Clarinet and String Orchestra. You'll also hear Karol Szymanowski's Etude in B Minor Op.4 No.3 (arranged for strings), and Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto, which is sure to be a highlight with its mixture of the spirit of Brazilian folk music and American prairie influences among others. There's also an intriguing Wild card mystery segment revealed at the concert.
Nice to know - The concert will also be performed in Toowoomba on August 11 at the Empire Theatre.
