Brisbane Arts Theatre

Petrie Terrace

The oldest surviving community theatre in Brisbane (circa 1936) Brisbane Arts Theatre stages plays adapted from children’s literature both classic and contemporary e.g. Roald Dahl & E.B. White. Here, children can enjoy traditional community theatre in a cutesy old-fashioned setting and meet and interact with the characters in the leafy cobbled courtyard afterwards.

At two and a half hours (including half hour interval) performances tend to be a bit long and wordy for toddlers and some pre-schoolers and as such are more suited to school age.

Seating is allocated and a snack bar open in the courtyard at intermission serving iceblocks, drinks, chips and pre-made sandwiches. can also accommodate birthday parties with a decorated table set up in the courtyard and BYO food.

Aside from the year round Saturday matinees and the odd Sunday matinee, during school holidays there’s a daytime session Tuesday to Friday excluding public holidays.

Need to know - Parking may be found in front or within the narrow the streets of Petrie Terrace behind.

Nice to know - Brisbane Arts Theatre can also accommodate birthday parties with a decorated table set up in the courtyard and BYO food.
