Bungalow 4171

Hawthorne

BUNGALOW 4171 IS CLOSED PERMANENTLY IN 2020.

Bungalow 4171, a gorgeous 1930's themed cafe on a sunny corner of Hawthorne Road, is a popular Hawthorne local's haunt

Under the colonial shop awning is a line-up of squatters chairs that make a perfect coffee and morning paper spot.

Indoors walls are covered with 1930s New York wallpaper or pressed metal, the chairs are antique velvet and the floor boards are dark polished.

There's a Latin American flavour to the menu with breakfast items such as Colombian sweet corn pancake (arepas) with jam, sweet corn and butter, Spanish tortilla or  Cazuela de Patatas (casserole dish of baked potatoes, onion and bacon with melted mozzarella) as well as Aussie faves like eggs on toast or a Big Breakfast, and creative dishes like Cauliflower Rissoles with sour chive cream and poached eggs.

The lunch menu features the all day breakfast dishes as well as mushroom gnocchi, kale, quinoa and chicken salad and Bungalow club sandwich.

Children are not forgotten  with a fantastic children's menu with dinosaur toast, buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs or eggy bread and, for lunch, toasties as well as dinosaur toast and pancakes, as well as vanilla, banana and honey or Milo milkshakes.

Although inside is a bit cosy, outside there's plenty of pram space and a quality high chair available. And that's not all – the counter is awash with freshly baked daily – in baskets and on boards, mini apple pies, muffins, berry crumbles, date loaf and croissants for those after a refreshment.

Wheelchair access is only available to the outdoor seating area.
