Japanese Kitchen Mazri
Underwood
Japanese Kitchen Mazri, a longtime fixture of Sunnybank’s Market Square, is now serving up authentic Japanese cuisine from its new home in Underwood.
While only relatively small in size, the eatery is not short on character. The walls are adorned with traditional Japanese clothing and posters, plus a handcrafted wooden wave motif. The lanterns hanging from the roof – including some crafted entirely from chopsticks – enhance the atmosphere and are particularly impressive once the sun sets.
Diners can choose to sit at one of the long wooden communal tables, or at smaller, more intimate settings. A number of alfresco tables are also available out the front of the eatery – and can even accommodate doggy diners.
The extensive menu is laden with traditional Japanese favourites, and is renowned for serving one of the best bento boxes in the Brisbane area. If you’re unsure of where to start, the teriyaki (available in a range of meats, fish or tofu) is a popular choice, as well as the deep-fried chicken (karaage), potato salad and spicy marinated eggplant.
A number of deli goods are also available to take home, including stir-fried lotus roots, seaweed salad, peanut miso, salmon omelette, and iced teas. A selection of ready-made sushi can also be purchased from the deli cabinet.
Need to know – The eatery is BYO and off-street car parking is conveniently available a short walk from the door.
