Barbacoa Mexican Taqueria brings authentic Mexican street food from Mexico City to the suburb of Coorparoo.
Located in Coorparoo Square, owners James Knight and Luisa Tarnawski have recreated a traditional taqueria with whitewashed brick walls and green trim. A mural of Mexican street food vendors overlooks the cosy, casual space.
The menu includes Mexico’s most popular street fare from tacos and tortas to tostadas and burritos. Customers can choose their meal (from the above) Barbacoa style or customise it with a range of marinated meats and tasty fillings like refried beans, guacamole, cheese and salsa.
Mouth-watering meats range from beef Barbacoa (shredded beef marinated in traditional spices, guajillo and ancho chillies, slow-cooked overnight) and bistec (steak marinated with garlic and mild spices and fried with onions¬) to cochinita pibil (shredded pork marinated in citrus and anchiote) and pollo en adobo (grilled chicken marinated and cooked in traditional adobo sauce with chilies, spices, citrus and garlic).
Everything is made fresh on-site including soft, corn tortillas, red and green salsas and guacamole.
Drink wise, there are Jarritos soft drinks, margaritas and Mexican beer like Corona, Tecate, Sol and Dos Equis.
Nice to know - Barbacoa is kid friendly. Littlies can munch on mini burritos or tostadas (filled with meat, beans and cheese) served with corn chips.
