Vanilla Pod Cake Kitchen

Albion

Vanilla Pod Specialty Cake Kitchen is Albion’s go-to for exquisite cakes and scrumptious sweet treats and is the sibling of legendary Ascot cake and deli cafe of the same name.

You’ll find the entrance down the elegant side street façade of the historic building in Birbeck St and inside is the petite shop space with one table and chairs and glass cabinets of melt-in-the-mouth cupcakes, slices, sponge cakes, cake pops and cookies.

Each day, Vanilla Pod churns out a mix of favourites and new creations, with everything baked onsite at their kitchen headquarters.

Look out for VP’s own version of the Neenish tart, based on passionfruit, lavender or raspberry mousse (made with fresh pulp) or the house specialty cupcakes (including signature chocolate and vanilla sponge and red velvet with oreo centre and every child’s fantasy – the Candy Crusher).

Cake pops come as almost too-good-to-eat tiny ice-creams in cones or on sticks and biscuits, include gluten-free, melting moments, gingerbread with animal faces, Anzac and the popular nutty date and cranberry. There’s also chocolate and cherry slices to-die-for and Paleo slices.

For special occasions, Vanilla Pod have it all covered too, from Naked Cakes - four layered sponges or the mind-blowing decadent layer cakes, novelty (from T-rex to disco ball) , specialty and pinata cakes, all of which need to be ordered in advance.

Pop in and talk to lovely owner Carla and her friendly staff first about what you want and they will ensure a cake to remember for any occasion.

Good to know: A limited number of cakes are also available as gluten-free.
