Broadway On Screen
Queensland Pops Orchestra
Queensland Pops Orchestra's Broadway on Screen will give audiences a toe-tapping, stirring time with music from movie musicals that had their start on Broadway, at Concert Hall, QPAC, August 11.
Think of all those fabulous Broadway musicals that were transferred to the silver screen because audiences loved them so much they wanted them to live on. Queensland Pops Orchestra maestro Patrick Pickett, has run with the idea of presenting even more beloved Broadway musical numbers after the popular 2017 concert, Broadway and Beyond.
Lucy Durack will headline the concert, and of course audiences will know her well from playing Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde The Musical – for which she won both a Sydney Theatre and Helpmann Award – and her TV role in Doctor Doctor. She will sing up a storm, ably supported by the talented musicians in our local pops orchestra.
Also appearing, and fresh from their triumph in last year’s concert when they received a standing ovation, are the amazing young feature artists from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in this final series concert for 2018. The Conservatorium continues to produce musical theatre professionals of very high standard, as anyone can attest who saw the magnificent Jesus Christ Superstar finale last year (under the direction of the Head of Performing Arts Associate Professor Paul Sabey and Vocal Coach Trevor Jones).
So, lovers of Broadway musicals – and who doesn’t love them? – make sure you book your tickets so you can relive all of those magical movie moments.
