Up On Constance
Fortitude Valley
UP ON CONSTANCE HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
Up on Constance rooftop bar is a cool stylish oasis atop the Valley’s funky TRYP Fortitude Valley Hotel, with views forever and access via its own elevator at the rear of a graffiti’d laneway.
Sleek and modern, the spacious glass-sided venue features 1970s patterned lime, lemon, orange and sky blue banquette seating, a giant inlaid Up-shaped cabinet of first pour champagne Veuve Clicquot and washrooms with street art by Rone-decorated basins, Morissey handwash and views to sunset and the Mt Coot-tha TV towers.
A retractable roof and bi-fold windows make it an all-weather venue – sheltered on cold inclement nights and pure bliss on the endless sultry summer evenings for which is has been designed. From all areas of the bar, there’s a unique vista to be enjoyed, from the fig trees and tin roofs of old New Farm and Teneriffe Hill, the chimney tops of the GPO, a tower of the Story Bridge, the gothic façade of St Patrick’s and the multiple new apartment blocks and saw-tooth roof factories scattered around the Valley.
Like the venue, the bar menu is a fusion of class and creative, with an immaculate drinks list that features fruity cocktails to share like The Pelican Hotel, inspired by the art deco streets of Ocean Drive, Miami and the legendary margaritas served therein: tequila, fresh watermelon, fig and grapefruit shrub and a pinch of salt or the House Punch – Belvedere pink grapefruit, Apricol Peach Liqueur and passionfruit pulp served in a carafe with 4 wine glasses.
Solo cocktails include Clover on Constance – Tanqueray gin with fresh lemon juice, sugar syrup and pomegranate/raspberries or the Espresso Coco – Ciroc coconut vodka with espresso and galiano ristretto.
Heading the Sparkling list are first pour champagne Veuve Clicquot while first pour bubbly Moet et Chandon, with the rest ranging from Chandon’s Brut or Brut Rose up to Dom Perignon (by the bottle).
A small carefully-curated selection of white wine varietals hail from The Loire Valley, France, Italy, NZ, WA, SA and Victoria while reds are from Italy, Spain, Victoria, SA and WA.
Draught beers are Stella Artois and James Squire’s One Hundred and Fifty Lashes while bottles include Hoegaarden, Kirin, Corona and Birra Moretti.
Bar food offerings are delicious morsels to share, from Oysters with Vietnamese dressing and crispy shallots to Cured Kingfish Carpaccio, Spiced Chickpea fritters with pickled veges and labne or Pork Croquette with prosciutto, apple and caramel puree.
Nice to know - For something more substantial take the elevator down to the hip and happening buzz of casual diner Chur Burger.
Need to know: Take the street art-covered lane between Kerbside Bar and Chur Burger to find the tucked away glass elevator to the rooftop. Up on Constance can be hired for functions in full (240 guests) from Mon-Wed and in partitioned sections from Thu-Sun.
