CHUR BURGER HAS BEEN REPLACED BY ANOTHER BURGER BAR - ARCHIE'S ON CONSTANCE - AND AWAITS A NEW REVIEW.
Chur Burger, the Brisbane sibling of the famous Sydney burger bar of the same name, has found itself a fitting home in the base of the Valley’s uber funky TRYP Hotel.
Spilling out onto a laneway adorned with the works of renowned street artists, this hip, loud and happening burger joint is perpetually abuzz with crowds who’ve stopped by for a legendary pulled pork burger with Chur BBQ sauce and a Pineapple Mary or a Jerk Chicken with corn salsa and corn bread and a salted caramel milkshake.
Burgers here are all $10, with other fillings including: Lamb, fetta, red onion, mint sauce and aioli, Crispy Pork Belly with chilli caramel, aioli and slaw or Spiced Chickpea Pattie with raw beetroot and honey labne.
One of the secrets behind the success of Chur Burger is the chef behind it, who originally owned a two hatted restaurant in Surry Hills and when it burnt down, to cover expenses, he set up a pop-up burger bar adjacent and has never looked back.
As well as the burgers, drop in for snacks like the delicious Ceviche of market fish with coconut cream and tomatoes, a hoisin brisket taco with pickled cucumber and rice or the more-ish sweet potato fries with lime and garlic salt.
For something more substantial as well as the Jerk Chicken, punters can order a grilled sirloin steak with onion and chipotle butter or Blackened Salmon with guacamole and crispy taco shell.
And be sure to leave room for the heavenly Smashed pavlova with strawberries and cream.
There’s plenty to keep drinkers happy here, with a quality red and white wine list, Moet and Veuve Clicquot a mix of craft and standard beers, bottled or on tap, ciders and cocktails like Chur Tommy’s (tequila blue, lime and agave), Downtown Manhattan or the must try Pineapple Mary (Ketel One, pineapple juice, hot sauce and smoked paprika).
Meanwhile the menu offering that sorts the boys from the men is the $20 Boiler Maker: A Buleit Frontier Bourbon Shot, a beer and a burger.
Need to know: At the time of writing (Sept 2014) a breakfast menu is in the pipes – look out for the Chur Breakfast Burger or Creamed mushrooms with cheese grits and creamy sage washed down with drinks like the Moa breakfast beer, Chur Bloody Mary or Coffee milkshake.
Nice to know: Pre or post burger take the private glass elevator in the adjacent laneway up to the splendid rooftop terrace bar Up on Constance.
