COVE BAR & DINING HAS CLOSED In 2016 AND IS SET TO RE-OPEN AS RIVER QUAY FISH.
After a century long lull the oyster bar has made a comeback in the South Brisbane area, in the guise of riverfront hotspot Cove Bar & Dining. Where oyster saloons were the hang-out de jour in 19th century, now they have a new incarnation in this champagne and oyster bar that doubles as a casual Euro-style diner.
Tables and chairs are strewn along a riverside boardwalk and inside an airy timber pavilion, with a stunning drawer-walled bar as a backdrop and a sunken lawn as a front yard.
Drop in at any time of afternoon or night for oysters in 15-20 guises, such as watermelon granita and lime salt, smoked tomato jam or their signature oyster creation 'Bubbles' – Moet & Chandon gel, San Pellegrino emulsion and King Salmon pearls. Or try the locally sourced mini plates of diver scallops, chilli jam doughnuts, cocoa dusted quail or rosewater panna cotta.
As well as an ideal champagne sipping spot, Cove is a bit of a lure for rum aficionados, with its select cache that includes Hudson River Rum (NY) and Woodford Reserve Master's collection.
