Burleigh Head National Park

Burleigh Heads

For the best views on the Gold Coast, head to Burleigh Head National Park at Burleigh Heads. Nestled between Burleigh Beach and Tallebudgera Creek, this small national park is popular with walkers and joggers with two tracks to choose from; both provide ample shade, sea breezes and amazing views - Surfers Paradise to the north and Coolangatta to the south.

The Oceanview walk leads around the headland at sea level while the Rainforest circuit scales the hill to the summit 88m above sea level with lookouts (and benches should you need to rest) along the way. Tumgun lookout is an excellent place to spot humpback whales in winter and spring.

Other wildlife you might encounter on your trek include brush turkeys, koalas, lace monitors, tree snakes and sea eagles, while flora includes rainforest, eucalypt forest, pandanus groves and mangroves.

Allow about an hour to do both circuits. Afterwards, reward yourself with a refreshing dip in the creek at Echo Beach, accessible by stairs.

Need to know: Both tracks are designated Class 3 – gently sloping with a reasonable level of fitness required. The Oceanview path is paved and is suitable for prams while the Rainforest circuit includes several steps.
