'Beautiful One Day, Perfect the Next' is a stunning contemporary art exhibition by Brisbane-born landscape painter Amanda Penrose Hart showing at Mitchell Fine Art from August 22 to September 15.
A painter that travels extensively in search of inspiration, Penrose Hart has been involved in projects that have taken her to Gallipoli, the Western Front, New Zealand, France and the four corners of Australia’s outback to name but a few.
Now based between her home in Sydney and her studio in country NSW, this series of new works is inspired by her rural property with its quirky caravans and rugged bushland.
The remaining artworks in this exhibition explore some of Australia’s vast coastline from Sofala in NSW to Coolum in QLD. On her recent travels up the east coast, Penrose Hart has captured panoramic seascapes, moody horizons and menacing shores in her recognisable impasto style.
Painting in situ and later referencing from memory, the artist aims to capture not only the physical landscape but also the essence or feeling of a place.
“To paint is to unravel, deconstruct, explore and repack the truth. To look isn’t to see – to see is what is most important – sounds obvious, but to see is everything,” says Penrose Hart.
Need to know - The artist will be in attendance on opening night from 6-8pm on Friday, August 24 and will also hold an artist talk in the gallery on Saturday, August 25 from 2pm.
