The Mathematics Of Longing
Roundhouse Theatre
Science and humanity interweave in a world premiere of the exciting new play, The Mathematics of Longing, at Roundhouse Theatre, June 2 – 23.
The play by Suzie Miller is part of La Boite Theatre Company’s trailblazing female-led 2018 season, and no doubt it’ll be a winner if Miller’s previous works – adaptations of Medea and Snow White – are any indication. This time, La Boite has collaborated with celebrated Gold Coast-based dance-theatre company The Farm (helmed by Kate Harman and Gavin Webber), and Miller’s production house, The Uncertainty Principle.
Video of Coming Soon // The Mathematics of LongingDescribed as “equal parts whimsical and sobering”, The Mathematics of Longing tackles first loves, love lost, family tragedy, and the triumph of the human spirit through a series of vignettes. Miller invites audiences to “think outside the square”, saying that “like theatre, maths is another abstract way of explaining the inexplicable; it allows us to turn knowns into unknowns, and vice versa.”
La Boite Artistic Director and CEO Todd MacDonald says, “Suzie Miller’s awe-inspiring new play is a multi-layered, multi-artform piece… sent into overdrive by the world-class The Farm, whose daring physicality redefines what contemporary theatre can be.” The Farm’s La Boite debut follows their acclaimed seasons at Bleach Festival and Festival 2018 (Tide, The Ninth Wave).
Rounding out the hugely talented team are: performers Ngoc Phan and Merlynn Tong, acclaimed visual artist Ross Manning on set design, and Ben Ely (Regurgitator) with his original and evocative soundscape.
