A Cafe called Kevin

New Farm

A cafe called Kevin is a hot new brunch spot in New Farm offering a delicious all-day menu of wholesome fare, crafted with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Located opposite New Farm Cinemas on Brunswick St, the heritage-listed cottage has been fully refurbished (following a fire in 2019) and features all new timber flooring, VJ panels, and a fresh lick of paint, yet still retains its charm and character.

Patrons can dine at the huge communal table in the centre of the cafe, at little tables with banquette seating, or outdoors on the dog-friendly deck, complete with a take-away coffee window and herb garden.

The concise all-day menu includes a range of dishes, prepared using fresh herbs from the onsite garden and produce from co-owner Yolanda's hobby farm.

Brunch favourites include a Brekky Burger (scrambled eggs, Kaiser bacon, sriracha, and cheddar on a potato bun) and Eggs Benjamin (poached eggs, Kaiser bacon and kimchi hollandaise on sourdough), served along with more inspired fare such as labneh, pickled cherries or baby figs, shaved almonds and chilli honey on rye.

You can also BYO - Build Your Own Breakfast - with your choice of sourdough, rye or gluten-free toast, eggs (scrambled or poached) and 2 extras - streaky bacon, chipolata sausage, halloumi or thyme mushrooms to name a few of the options.

Drinks wise, there's expertly crafted coffee supplied by Dibs (formerly The Black Lab Coffee Co), specialty lattes, hot chocolate, fresh juices and fruity smoothies, plus puppacinos for four-legged customers.

Patrons can also pick up some gourmet pantry staples like sea salt, sardines, olives, or chilli honey, as well as locally sourced, fresh fruit and veges.

Nice to know - Kevin is owned by hospo-veterans Yolanda van Houtte (Drip at Haven Newstead) and Sam Holsman (Dibs, Blackout and Noir in Paddington and If You Say So, St Lucia).
