Mrs J. Rabbits

Woolloongabba

Mrs J. Rabbits in Woolloongabba is Brisbane’s best secret hidden bar – a 1920's whisky and jazz speakeasy that you need a password to enter.

First you'll need to get the secret password from the bar downstairs, then take the antique staircase inside Electric Avenue Kitchen and Bar, turning left at the landing, up another flight and step through the wardrobe straight into a kind of Narnia/Wonderland.

Seating includes a cosy corner lamp-lit booth overhung with a parasol – a prime seat for couples and besties and leather armchairs and couches strewn with cow skin and tapestry cushions. Oriental rugs, candles in vintage teacups, art deco chandeliers, a wall of grandfather clocks, vintage spoons, masks and antique paraphernalia are scattered around the room whose centrepiece is a stunning pressed metal bar.

Specializing in luxe whisky (an extraordinary array of premium whiskeys from around the globe) and gin, the fantasy bar menu features seasonal and classic cocktails, back bar spirits (Beware of the Fairies) and bottles and tins (a boutique selection of fine wines and beers). In keeping with the theme, must-try signature cocktails include Jabberwocky, Lost Boys Club, Hundred Acre Wood, Wild Rumpus and Aslans Pride.

And, to accompany, Mrs J Rabbits have a dedicated bar food menu as the perfect accompaniment, including warmed olives or bread with garlic butter, shoestring fries, chicken pate with Turkish bread or cheese and charcuterie boards. You can also enjoy a whiskey and cheese pairings.

Need to know - Mrs J Rabbits also does a special whiskey and oyster pairing, as well as private whiskey tastings. And on Sunday nights there is live jazz from 7.30-9.30pm.
