Moorooka

Afro Restaurant is an authentic Ethiopian/Eritrean eatery in the heart of Brisbane's Little Africa, Moorooka.

Afro Restaurant, Moorooka

Located at the entrance of the retro Ranchhod Arcade on Beaudesert Road, this little eatery with vibrant wall murals offers a variety of Ethiopian/Eritrean cuisine including Gored Gored (lean beef in spicy berbere sauce and spiced butter), Lega Tibs (stir-fried lamb or beef sauteed in a blend of exotic herbs, onions, jalapenos and capsicum), and Doro Wat (rich chicken stew).

There's plenty of vegetarian dishes on offer like Kik Alicha (split yellow peas stewed with carmelised onion, turmeric and jalapeno), Tikel Gomen (cabbage, carrots, and potatoes cooked with onion, ginger and turmeric), Miser Keywot (red lentil stew with spicy berbere sauce) and Gomen (green cabbage and collard greens slow-cooked with onion, garlic and herbs).

All main dishes are served with injera, a must-try Ethiopian fermented pancake-like flatbread that's the perfect accompaniment to Ethiopian cuisine.

If you're unsure of what to order, there are Chef's Platters (ideal for 2 to 5) featuring a selection of Vegan/Vegetarian dishes, Meat dishes or Mixed Combo (meat and vegetarian dishes).

To complement the experience, try a traditional Ethiopian coffee or chai tea. There's also a range of cold drinks on offer.
