Uncle Don

Rosalie

Uncle Don is a little hidden gem of a Japanese restaurant specialising in donburi (Japanese rice bowl), found tucked away in Rosalie Mews in Rosalie Village.

Take a seat on the covered restaurant or in the minimalist interior and enjoy the delectable Donburi dishes and tapas style entrees, accompanied by a Japanese beer or fruit wine or sake.

For starters there's a crispy eggplant chips tower, parmesan karaage chicken, baked cauliflower miso cream, pork katsu sando or charred broccolini and miso soup.

The rest of the menu is devoted to an extensive selection of don, an absolute must try, and which come with tea recommendations to complement. Choices include pork don (sweet soy or chilli marinated) or beef (sweet soy marinated or Wagyu steak).

The seafood dishes are a standout - try the salmon sashimi or the tonkatsu baked don, or, for something more adventurous, the grilled unagi (eel). Meanwhile chicken don includes chicken katsu, char-grilled chicken or karaage & egg.

There's also vegetarian don (eggplant, tofu on tofu or shiitake mushroom) and, to follow, a couple of desserts - matcha tiramisu don or miso chocolate mousse.

Drinks on offer are all Japanese, from premium teas to beer, sake, Japanese soft drinks and fruit wine. Customers can also BYO wine for a corkage charge.

Need to know - There is free, off-street parking available at Rosalie Mews (entrance off Nash St) or on-street parking available nearby.
