Settlement Cove Lagoon

Redcliffe

This gigantic tropical sea front pool nestled at the base of Redcliffe’s cliffs is a favourite for families with young children and those who enjoy a shallow water paddle on a hot day.

Studded with islets of palm trees and encircled with shady figs, it also makes a picturesque picnic spot.

Adjacent is a popular kids park with water play jets and a seafront walk/cycle path which connects the cove to Redcliffe Pier and the parks beyond.

Motorists will need to exercise a lot of patience at busy times as car parks are gobbled up early in the day and fought over thereafter. Unless carrying small children and a load of gear it’s probably advisable to park on the northern end of town and approach via the seafront path.

Settlement Cove Lagoon

History buffs may be interested in the name of the cove which is due to Redcliffe being white man’s first settlement city in Queensland. Initially the penal settlement was established here in 1824 but was promptly moved to Brisbane in 1825 after everyone started getting sick with mosquito-borne illnesses.

For the super keen, in the park north of the town centre is a map showing the location of those first settlement buildings around town.
