Iconic 1970's Queensland tourist attraction The Big Pineapple has reopened, so that once again visitors of all ages can experience the heritage-listed landmark with its fun onsite activities.

Standing at 16 metres (52 ft) high, the 2-level fibreglass Big Pineapple, which  opened on 15 August 1971, is situated on a 170-hectare site, originally known as the Sunshine Plantation.

Today, under new owners, the site is being transformed into a mulit-purpose complex, which includes a revamped TreeTop Challenge zipline, Wildlife HQ zoo, new cafe and viewing platform and children's playground as well as the restoral of the beloved train, which was built in the 1950's.

Another newer addition to the Big Pineapple is Sunshine & Sons distillery, while October 2024 will see the return of music festival The Big Pineapple Festival, which started in 2014 and ran until 2021.

Need to know - The first stage of the reopening includes the viewing platform, cafe, playground and train rides, with renovations of the Big Pineapple's interior and tours and pineapple parfaits to follow.

*Entry to The Big Pineapple site is free, with tickets to the train $5pp and separate charges to visit the zoo and Treetop Challenge. You can also purchase combo tickets to the train & zoo.
