Located on leafy Riding Road, Biome is the place for those who want to live a plastic free life and be kinder to the planet without compromising on aesthetics and design, with the counter area and all of the shelves, tables and shop fittings a stunning showcase of what can be made from recycled waste.

Taking pride of place just inside the entrance is the DIY Naked Beauty bar, the first of its kind in Brisbane, where customers can help themselves to raw totally pure materials and, using Biome’s provided recipes, make their own shampoo, face and body cleansers, scrubs, bath fizzes and even deodorant.

Here you’ll find a mix of contemporary and ingredients great-grannie would have used: Tassie Sea salt & Epsom salt, Apple Cider Raw Vinegar from Stanthorpe, refined Cocoa and Shea Butter, Beeswax, Green Clay for face and body masks, witch hazel, glycerine, seaweed powder, avocado and caster oil and honey, lemon and chamomile tea ( good for hair rinses).

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of the mostly Australian made goods that can be found in this gorgeous store. Here you can buy native bee hives which are made from salvaged Queensland timbers and single origin honeys named after their neighbourhood rooftops (Paddington, West End and Bulimba).

For around the home there’s charcoal toothbrushes, urns of serve-yourself Kin Kin Naturals dishwashing liquid, natural brushes, sea sponges and cleaning materials, beautiful water bottles (double insulated), metal ice-block moulds, solar lamps and a library of books on all related subjects from growing food to house-cleaning.

Biome is also a great place to pick up some everyday things and even safe and sturdy toys for children, including a range of groovy lunch boxes, mahogany wooden timber toys, wooden jigsaws and beeswax crayons.
