Camp Mountain Recreation Reserve

Camp Mountain

While crowds flock to nearby Jollys Lookout, up on Camp Mountain a much smaller group of picnickers enjoy views of city and bay that are just as spectacular, from their secluded slice of green reserve.

So-called because of the swarms of gold prospectors who, in the 19th century set up camp in these hills, Camp Mountain today is one of Brisbane’s most exclusive picnic and barbecue spots. With just a handful of wood and gas barbecues and picnic shelters and a toilet block there’s not much to do here except enjoy the retreat and the views.

For the highly motivated, fit and well-shod, there is a steep dirt path that leads across and downhill through the thick of the forest to Bellbird Grove however most will find this reserve more of a place to lie down and catch some winter sun’s rays and a glimpse of Moreton Island.
